What are we doing?

Cala Tarida

Having stayed for two nights at Cala Xarraca we were keen to explore more of Ibiza. Blue Eyes were south of us on their way to Mallorca so I suggested we meet in the middle as we didn't want to stay a third night so I suggested Port de Sant Miquel.

We left early and when we entered Sant Miquel it was quite clear that there just wasn't room for a boat of our size at this time of year. In high season there are simply too many boats and unless we are lucky and someone moves, our options are limited.

I texted Blue Eyes and said they we were coming to them as there was no room at the inn. Unfortunately Sarah didn't look at her phone and when she did they had already departed so we crossed and exchanged a few pleasantries on the VHF and Sarah took some photos as they passed. It was a shame because we won't see each other for a few years as they are on a mission to get to Greece and Turkey.

We were running out of fresh fruit and veg so we were keen to get to Cala Tarida so that is where we went. We both felt quite sad about not staying put and waiting fro Blue Eyes.

The anchorage at Cala Tarida was both busy and had weed patches. So we had a couple of false starts trying to find a suitable place to anchor which is both clear of weed and where we won't swing into other boats. In Cala Tarida the depth as about 7m so we only needed to put out about 22m of chain which does help.

After lunch we read books and waited for the worst of the heat to subside. Then we took the dinghy to the shore and went straight to the first restaurant to check out the menu. Then at the second I decided we needed a cold drink, the waitress was really good and she told us where a supermarket was so after our drink we went shopping….

When we arrived we were both drenched, by the time we had walked the half mile downhill to the beach I was soaked through. This environment is so hard to cope with and difficult to communicate on paper. Linda went to the restaurant and I returned to the boat with the shopping.

I arrived and opened the boat (Everything was shut and locked so it was between 50-60 degrees inside!) I stepped in and nearly collapsed. Everything went in the fridge or freezer. At that point my phone buzzed - it was Linda, "have a shower darling I am doing fine here". So I had a shower and turned on the anchor light and returned to the restaurant.

I cannot say it was the best meal we have had this holiday although Linda's goat cheese salas was spectacular, but the view was undoubtedly the most outstanding. I have chosen the view from the restaurant as the main photo for this entry. As the meal progressed night fell until the anchorage was nothing but dancing lights, what a sight.

I had left our boom lights on so one boat in the anchorage stood out from all the others which made out return in the dark straightforward.

  • Looking cool before we started our quest for shopping.
