Houat 2025 Round 2

The contrast leaving La Trinite compared to our arrival could not have been more different. It was calm there was little or now wind we just slipped our lines and drifted out. Before we left I had been given an errand to go to the fisherman's hall and to buy some fish… it cost €31 for a small bass, I think it was a rip off.

As we left the harbour I pulled out full sail and we were gently wafting along to Houat. It was lovely, there were a few boats ahead of us bit this was a great time to go. There was enough wind to sail although it was forecast to drop later in the day and getting there early means we can get closer to the shore. We arrived and it was magnificent we found a great spot with lots of room all around. We dropped the anchor, had some morning tea and read books for most of the day. Late in the afternoon we went to the beach.

Now whilst there were no winds there was some residual swell coming in meaning that there were small breaking waves as we came in. Linda had beach wear I said I would get changed on the beach so we approached the beach and as were got within 20 feel I cut the engine and lifted it u out of the water Linda got ready to step off as soon as she was on knee deep water. I stood up (as I normally do our boat is very stable) and bam without warning a wave shoved the boat with enormous force pushing it out from underneath me, I did a full backwards summersault into the water wearing me leather back pack as I stood up Linda was in tears with laughter, it was such a comedic moment straight out of Laual and Hardy.

We returned to the boat had some supper and fell asleep, then we went to bed.

The next day we awoke to a very serene scene boats were leaving and other boats were moving to get a better spot, lots of entertainment. We were happy where we were. After breakfast I finished my book and it was time to go ashore. It was a bit different to last year, there were fewer people and the islands supermarket had closed down. We decided to eat early because the French are very strict about dining hours 12-2 or go hungry. We decided to go to a different place today because he had eaten twice before at the village pub in the centre. So we headed off down the track to a smart looking crepieie, "do you have a reservation?" no we have just got off a boat, "sorry we are fully booked".; back to the village pub.

After lunch we went straight to the back and read our books at around 7:30pm it was time to go back to the boat. When we arrived it was a nightmare we had been surrounded by lots of small boat (too close really) and we don't know why there was plenty of room for small boats in better locations. It wss however so still I was not unduly worried.
