What are we doing?

Salcombe - Roscoff

It is always the same, the tides are everything and whilst we were both exhausted from the day before there was no chance of a lie in as we wanted to catch the tide around to Salcombe. It would have been nice to have stayed in Dartmouth for a day but we needed to cross to Rostock and to do that saving two hours was a price worth paying.

We set off at 8am with the change of tide and to say the weather again was not nice is frankly how it was. Strong winds and strong tides. I had decided to make a plan to keep inshore once turning west out of the harbour and only popping out to get around Start Point at the last minute. It was a good plan but it does not fool Neptune! Around that head is rough water and strong winds and we soon found it. The only good thing was that once we were through the rough water we were able to sail the last 4 miles into Salcombe. The rest of the journey had meant motoring into the wind.

On entry I went a little too close to the bar and we only has 0.5m under the keel which was a bit of a mistake, one forgets how far left you have to be to find the deep water channel. Once inside we were welcomed by the harbour master and given a prime buoy off the town. Before we had finished tying up Nigel from Clarelsea (The boat we share our home berth with) turned up. He is in Salcombe for the week.

We made a quick decision to find a pub for some lunch and then do some last minute shopping. An early night as we will be up at 5:30 tomorrow.
