What are we doing?

Houat 2025

At 4 am I woke and went into the saloon and I found that in the night the wind had shifted and we had swung around 90 degrees. The direction was not idea but was forecast. We hadn't dragged our anchor but a another blue boat had arrived after us and had dropped anchor too close to us and we were now quite close to them having swung 90 degrees and stretched out our anchor chain. I called to Linda it was time to go. We could have simply re-anchored but honestly the wind direction was ideal for a journey south and as the wind was forecast to drop later we really didn't want to have to motor.

We pulled up the anchor and left the anchorage. Soon I had puled out bot full genoa and full mainsail and we were creaming along nicely. We took turns to get a few more zzzzds before the morning but before it was light I said to Linda we have dolphins and sure enough in the full darkness we could see and hear the phosphorescence as the dolphins played in our wash. They stayed with the boat for about 90 minutes as as it became light they disappeared.

We approached Houat by the west and there was not a boat in sight in the anchorage but the wind was coming from the north west so this was quite expected, with swell and wind from this direction it would have been horrid. We went around to the large southern anchorage and found a great spot as close to the shore as other boats would allow and dropped our hook. This was a great spot. We had a great breakfast and read some books and when it came time to go ashore the wind had picked up rather than tailed away so we decided to stay on board and go ashore in the morning.

  • Being entertained by this woman on a hover board thing was amazing she was so fast.
