Day 7 Tayvallich - Ardfern Marina

We started the day with a visit to the village and a short walk. We didn't get much further than the village cafe and had some lovely home made scones with local jam and tea. It was a lovely start to the day.

We hauled up the anchor with slightly bated breath as there are some rocks in the area and we didn't want to be hung up on one but it came straight up which was fantastic. Soon we were motoring slowly down the loch and Jane used the moment to read the newspaper.

The plan was to head for Ardfern marina as Jane and Alastair are leaving us tomorrow and have a taxi booked. I had booked the marina and only restaurant in town. As we exited Loch Sween I pulled out the sail and we crossed the Sound of Jura under sail in order to give us a good point of sail to sail north east all the ay up to Ardfern. We popped up the pink sail and ghosted along for all of 20 minutes when we finally had to give in and motor. No one wants to be in Scotland with strong winds but not having any wind is no good either. I sincerely hope it is not feast of famine up here. The main blessing is there has been so little rain this year that there are no midges.

We arrived at about 4pm and were soon tied up and had some afternoon tea with some lovely lemon cake that we had bought from a cake stall in Gigha. Later we all went off for what can only be describes as a mediocre meal at the hotel. It was a bit sad because the waiting staff were lovely, the setting was even better and they played some great music.
