Day 7 A day in Borkum
We all had a good sleep following 38 hours at sea and a lazy start. We decided to catch the bus into town which was 7km away. With a F7 outside we had no choice but to stay another day.
The town is quite modern with few old buildings but has many more inhabitants than expected. Cycling is the preferred mode of transport here, but there is both a bus service and a narrow guage railway from the port to the centre of town.
After a quick tour of the high street we had lunch in a nice bar and a few Pils!
After lunch we went our separate ways for a couple of hours and I decided to see if I could find some seals on the beach. However the tide was out miles and it was a little nerve racking to walk over a mile possibly two to the water edge as I was concerned that the tide would come in behind me. However I did get there and I found a wrecked yacht that had foundered on Wednesday. I appears as though a rope was trapped around the propeller, however the locals are postulating if alcohol was involved. There was a full case of beer in the cockpit.
We met at the supermarket at 5pm to buy vegetables for the boat as it seems that someone didn't provision Sea Crusader with anything apart from his favourite frozen peas!
Graham had used his time to climb to the top of the lighthouse 301 steps and reported that he saw a fishing boat try to leave the harbour but it did a u-turn. Later a fishing boat was towed into the harbour by the lifeboat, we don't know if it was the same boat.
