Day 6 Gigha - Tayvallich
As we had arrived so late the day the day before Alastair had booked lunch at the hotel which left us enough time to visit the gardens of the nearby stately home. The walk was only about ¾ of a mile but it was a welcome stretch of the legs. The gardens were very interesting, it seems that Gigha has a very moderate climate with the Gulf Stream keeping frost away and as a result many plants grow better than they would in the South of England.
The lunch was OK but no better than that, it would have been 100% better if the staff and owner had had a more positive attitude but mostly they were surly, if you are going to Gigha then book "The Boathouse" well in advance, when we arrived they were booking a week ahead which is difficult if you are on a boat, you never really know where you will be in a weeks time.
After lunch we headed for Tayvallich which was not far away and unfortunately we were only able to sail for about 50% of the time, more time is needed even for short distances if you don't want to use your engine as this week light winds have prevailed and even then they have mostly been on the nose which is really unusual. I am fully expecting the winds to return to South Westerly when we head South!
Tayvallich is a lovely place it is a very pretty natural harbour in Loch Sween. There are three visitors buoys inside the harbour and room inside to anchor but given the falling light and the settled weather we anchored just outside and were none the worse for it.
