Day 3 Burnt Islands - Tarbet
We had a very settled night at the Burnt Islands and after a light breakfast we set off for Tarbet on Kintyre. I have qualified this because there are a number of Tarbets in Scotland.
Very soon after turning into West Kyle we were able to get under sail and whilst there was not a lot of wind we were proceeding rather serenely along the narrow waterway. As we approached the end we had to turn North West into Loch Fyne and as we were proceeding head to wind I turned on the engine and I was almost immediatly hit with complaints as everyone wanted to sail even though this would delay our arrival time so we tacked all the way. It was quite challenging as the wind near the shores was moving in a different direction to the middle of the loch. However after a few tacks we had a very favourable wind shift and we were able to sail straight for the entrance.
We had a reserved berth in Tarbet and we were soon tied up. Jane and Alastair shot off to the town to explore and to say hello to their friend who owns the best restaurant in town. That evening we ate in Starfish and had a splendid meal.
The town of Tarbet is a very pretty fishing village with a Castle which is famous because it was largely built by Robert the Bruce and he departed from Tarbet to the Irish Rathlin Island where he famously observed a spider trying to make a web.
