Day 26 Tallinn
After a long overnight sail the previous day and a quick meal on arrival we were raring to go. We hd a quick breakfast but a late start as long sails do take it out if you.
The town of Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia (Origin if this name is uncertain but the common understanding is it is "East Lands"). We took a bus to the town centre from the marina and after a brief walk we decided to join a free tour with "Helen". Helen was the best guide I have ever had of a city, she was really funny and self deprecating. Apparently Estonian people are not miserable to foreigners they are miserable to everyone and they do not do small talk even to each other. The tour lasted two hours during which time we were told that the people of Estonia have no love of the old city, and were slaves for 600 years. How they ever won their freedom from the Russians is a complete mystery.
The price of everything here is very normal in European terms which make a refreshing change from Gotland which is very expensive. The people here speak a similar language to the Fins who they say came from the same tribe in the Ural mountains more than 1000 years ago.
The evening ended with a party on Sea Crusader, and team Jolief arrived and so an early start in Monday is not expected. Earlier we audited our alcohol for Russian customs and we were found to be 18 bottles over the limit. We did not try to drink all the excess but we made good inroads.
