Day 19 Visby

We left Bornholm on the 18th at 4am for an overnight sail to Visby 200 miles! Sadly I was still feeling chilled and we were in two minds what to do but as Jane was arriving the next day we decided to press on. There was no wind initially so we were all forced to use our engines. Later in the day the wind built to 8knts (very light) and we decided to give the cruising chute (Similar to a spinnaker) a go. When we unfurled it we discovered a small tear of about 7 inches so we had to take it down straight away which was sad as it meant we had to start the engine again.

My situation only got worse and I developed a fever. Linda was a brick and stood the watch all through the night. At 3am she awoke me and I took over and almost immediatly that the wind picked up and I was able to switch off the engine after 23 hours! Bliss.

We sailed all the way to Visby and were the first to arrive. I was kicking myself as 2/3rds of the boats had pealed off and anchored for the night and I had just followed the WCC programme.

I was 11am and Jane was due at 4pm so enough time for us to clean the boat, have some lunch and chill. Linda and I went for a short walk in the town and went to an "Irish Bar" to watch the mens final at Wimbledon. Sadly for the Swedes local football takes priority takes over and they switched over at 5pm, nightmare!

We walked back to the boat set up the iPad and watched the rest of the epic final in the cockpit, where upon we were joined by other boat owners desperate to watch the end of the match too.

Jane arrived and we had a few drinks and went for a meal.

Here in Gotland they said is a just like Sweden only more expensive. Well that can't be an exaggeration, it is £16 for a pizza!
