Day 14 Rostock to Bornholm
The WCC set a departure time of 12 noon and then said we should not arrive before 6AM! Well it is only 110 miles from Rostock to Bornholm so that wasn't going to work. As I was now crewless Graham and Alistair having left the boat in Rostock (Thanks for the help chaps), the WCC put one of their team on my boat for the leg. I said I wanted to leave around 4pm but Mark turned up at two and wanted to be the first boat in so that he could direct operations. Well most boats had left at this time, so the race was on. Then I get a text from Linda asking "I checked on Marine Traffic. Any reason why you were one of the last to leave?"
The entrance was quite lumpy but it didn't bother Sea Crusader at all and the winds were around 15knts so the going was good. As the evening drew on the wind completely dropped and so we set about putting up the spinnaker and untangling it. It went up perfectly but Mark's assessment was not good, I have some modifications to do. At around 11pm the steering went again and the boat did a little pirouette whilst I replaced the bolt once again. After that was fixed we rolled it away and concentrated on getting the boat moving. Needless so say the wind picked up and moved forward (Sea Crusaders best point of sail) slowly we over took every boat bar one that had left really early, but we were just two minutes behind them in the end. We stormed at about 1.2knts faster than everyone else.
Once we were tied up a number of people commented at how fast we went.
