Day 11 Kiel to Rostock

We left Kiel and were a little sorry to do so as it was a lovely place in a nice marina. The conditions were good. We could see on AIS that Bolero and Elixir had both pulled out of their nights stop ahead of us and were about a mile ahead. We were not racing or anything but you know what they say about two boats going in the same direction….

As we reached the gunnery ranges they announced that firing had ceased for the day so we could cut the corner. We tried our best to get to Rostock as quickly as possible but the point of sail was impossible for this boat. We wanted to pole out the genoa but it was seized again and we could not use it. Elixir took the short cut and went under the bridge cutting about 8 miles from the route but Bolero and Sea Crusader had to go around the long way. We could not catch Bolero, we tried to set the spinnaker but had a wrap and had to drop the mess through the hatch and sort it out later. Bolero arrived first and we did few circles outside to let them get in first without us coming upon them as they were berthing. We had to moor in a "box" with piles which we did after a struggle see the above photo.
