Day 10 Loch Spelve - Erraid Sound

I could not wait to leave Loch Spelve after a night with the jelly fish. The anchorage was really calm which was a blessing but it was so hot and I wanted a swim yesterday and there was no way!

As soon as we woke up we were on our way the jelly fish having disappeared overnight, we were heading for a recommended anchorage in Erraid Sound which is between Erraid and the Isle of Mull, if you look at a map at the south west side of the Isle of Mull you will see the island of Iona, Erraid is just to the east of it.

We set off with very little wind and as we headed south of Mull we headed straight into a fog bank. In London and the South East you were enjoying 31 degrees or frying, we were donning our rugby shirts (Fog is really cold!).

As we reached the entrance to the sound the fog lifted and we had clear vision into the the anchorage and as we entered it opened up and there was just one other bot in there a huge blue super yacht! I didn't cause us any problems because we were looking for shallower water. We picked a beautiful spot but as it turn out I was perhaps being a bit cautious and we could have gone further in but better safe than sorry.

The anchorage was stunning and it was clear that the eater was clear but as the fog cleared so the wind arrived. It wasn't that strong but it was funnelling through the sound so we were veering more than I would have liked.

After lunch we launched the dinghy and went to the beautiful white sand beach where we met another family having a BBQ and they offered us some wine, so we stayed and exchanged yarns and places we had been to. We then proceeded to walk up the hill in the hop of getting a mobile signal as we are trying to arrange our mortgage! No luck, we will try again tomorrow.

  • Nice view
  • Looking for mobile signals!
  • That's Sea Crusader in the background and our dinghy on the beach.
